khanThe road heading north from Jerusalem to Sabastiya is an ancient one. In the 12th century, in the Crusader period, it was controlled by the Knights of St. John. Later, during the Ottoman period in the 16th century, a khan was created on the road in Al-Bireh, adjacent to Ramallah, as a place for travelers to rest their animals, exchange valuable information on travel conditions, and spend a peaceful night in secure surroundings before continuing their journeys. The Khan gradually fell into ruins until 2014 when Rozana supervised a rehabilitation project, funded by the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme), which restored parts of the building and created a museum for displays of artifacts to visitors.
